SD/PEN Meets September 19

The following information comes from San Diego Professional Editors Network concerning their regular September meeting.

August 6, 2019 (San Diego, CA) — On Thursday, September 19, 2019, Georgeanne Irvine, author and director of corporate publishing for San Diego Zoo Global Press, will give a behind-the-scenes look at the zoo’s new book publishing endeavor at the next program meeting for the San Diego Professional Editors Network (SD/PEN). Launched last year, San Diego Zoo Global Press is dedicated to publishing books that inspire children and adults to care about wildlife and conservation. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the San Diego Health Services Complex.

Georgeanne Irvine is an award-winning children’s book author who has devoted more than 40 years of her career to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. She has authored more than two dozen children’s books about animals, including San Diego Zoo Global Press’s “New Hope and Inspiration” collection. In early 2019, she won a gold medal in the national Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) Benjamin Franklin Awards competition. Ruuxa & Raina: A Cheetah and Dog’s True Story of Friendship and Miracles was named the best nonfiction children’s book of 2018 for ages 8–12. In addition, Karen’s Heart: The True Story of a Brave Baby Orangutan won the silver medal in the same category. 

The cost is free to SD/PEN members and only $10.00 for nonmembers. The evening will include snacks and beverages as well as the opportunity to network before the presentation.
