Topic: Understanding Invisible Disabilities

From intellectual impairments to depression to chronic pain, many of us struggle with or are close to someone who lives with an invisible disability. Join Kelly Bargabos, author of Chasing the Merry-Go-Round, for an honest and inspirational discussion that will transform your perspective and help you find awareness, understanding, and acceptance in a world that often moves too fast for some.

About the Author

A successful business woman and CPA with a passion for writing, Kelly Bargabos grew up the middle child in a family of five—something she believes helped forge her personality and character. A firm believer in the credo that if the basic needs of a person’s spirit, soul, and body are met, it allows them the ability to keep their own corner of the world—their home—safe and prosperous for them and their family, Kelly had dedicated herself to helping her intellectually and physically challenged brother achieve this. A recent transplant from upstate New York to southern California, Kelly is passionate about serving her global and local communities, as well as an advocate for narcolepsy awareness.

About the Book

Kelly Bargabos was a small child when her parents brought home the ten-month-old baby boy who would become her brother. For years they didn’t understand why her brother faced a life-long battle to find his place in the world—a world that often seemed to simply move too fast for him. Kelly became his advocate, his cheerleader, and his protector.

Now she has written his story. While cultural ideals of what a “normal” life looks like can distort our perspective, Chasing the Merry-Go-Round allows readers to see the world through the eyes of a person with intellectual and physical disabilities, often being invisible at first glance. Poignant, enlightening, inspirational, and universal, Chasing the Merry-Go-Round is a story about struggle and hope, survival and resilience, and most of all, the gift of acceptance and love.
