Entries are open for the eleventh ABR Calibre Essay Prize. Calibre is one of the world’s leading prizes for a new essay. We are seeking essays of between 3,000 and 7,000 words on any non-fiction subject. Calibre is open to anyone in the world who is writing in English.

Entries are open for the 2017 ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, one of the world’s leading prizes for an original short story. We are seeking stories of between 2,000 and 5,000 words. The Jolley Prize is open to anyone in the world who is writing in English.

Outstanding Indie Author of the Year

Aionios Books is launching an annual competition for outstanding indie author of the year in recognition of Carlsbad native and Pulitzer Prize nominee, Victor Villaseñor. The contest is open to Southern California residents of all ages, with completed novel-length fiction manuscripts (60-100,000 words) in the following genres: thriller, mystery, horror, fantasy, science fiction, dystopian fiction, and young adult.

Submission deadline is August 1, 2017.
