    You’ve got skills, but how do you get clients? At the September program meeting of SD/PEN, longtime SD/PEN and SDWEG member Andrea Susan Glass will talk about determining your area of specialty and your ideal client, and developing your marketing message and materials. How important is it to establish a brand? Should you advertise online and offline? Andrea will also discuss various marketing methods, how to draft a 90-day marketing plan and how to keep yourself accountable.

    Andrea Susan Glass, CEO of WritersWay, is a book coach, copyeditor, and award-winning ghostwriter specializing in personal and professional development books. She teaches “Marketing for Copyeditors” and “Building a Business Around Writing” for UCSD Extension and gives webinars and workshops on writing and publishing. Andrea has written professionally for newspapers, magazines, businesses, and individuals. As an author, she will publish her first book in an upcoming series this year.

  • Andrea Glass Class on Marketing for Copyeditors: How to Get the Word Out

    Andrea Susan Glass will be teaching her four-week UCSD Extension course “Marketing For Copyeditors: How To Get the Word Out” starting September 28 and ending October 24.

    All instruction and course materials delivered and completed online between the published course start and end dates.

    In the course you’ll identify your area of expertise, determine niche markets, and investigate ways to market your services through online and offline strategies. You’ll develop a marketing message and create promotional materials and presentations that relay your message. At the end of the course, you’ll have a three-month marketing plan and schedule to get you into action to start your copyediting business.     Conventional wisdom says it takes around seven touches to make a sale. And most of those touches take place on your website.

    How do you drive people to your website?

    With your topics and your hooks. Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, you can develop topics that are compelling, entertaining, imperative, and engaging – topics that will feed both your social and traditional media needs.

    Join book developer, publicist, and founder of the La Jolla Writers Conference, Antoinette Kuritz, for an instructional and interactive session on how to develop your media hooks and topics. In advance of this session, please submit a 50-word synopsis of your book and a 35-word pitch to media. We will address as many individual pitches as possible. Please submit directly to Antoinette Kuritz at akuritz@strategiespr.com putting “SDWE Submission” as the subject.

    Then join us Monday, September 28, for Antoinette Kuritz’s presentation on media hooks and topics.

    The invitation with the Zoom address will be sent to all members the week before the meeting. Guests who wish to attend should send a message to webmaster@sdwritersguild.org by Friday, September 25, to request an invitation.

    We begin each monthly meeting with an optional Marketing Support Group meeting at 5:30 p.m. The same Zoom session will continue for the regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. for signing in and informal networking. A short business meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m., and the program follows at 7 p.m.

    Both the Marketing Support Group meeting and the regular meeting will be livestreamed to Facebook for another viewing option. The sessions will be available to view later on Facebook.
