From the ezine of SDWEG member Sam Warren:
May 20 (Saturday, 8:00 a.m.) — Adventures by the Book™ is pleased to present a Queen Mary Adventure with award winning novelist, Susan Meissner, for a day trip from San Diego, CA to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. This event is ticketed ($105 per person with a copy of A Bridge Across the Ocean included in ticket price) and is open to the public. The transportation from San Diego to Long Beach has been sold out. Anyone wishing to join the event must arrange their own transportation to the ship.
About the Event: Join us as we follow the path of Susan’s main character, Brette Caslake, to the notoriously haunted RMS Queen Mary, docked in Long Beach, California. Our group of Adventurers, along with Susan Meissner, will take a private tour of the Queen Mary, discovering its history and intrigue along the way. Susan will act as our personal story teller as she elaborates on how she was inspired to create a fascinating cross- generational featuring war brides who emigrated to the United States after World War II.
Upon arrival in Long Beach we will board the Queen Mary for an exclusive private tour of the historic ship. After the tour Adventurers will be treated to lunch aboard the ship where they will have the chance to intimately mingle with our wonderful and knowledgeable author and a very special guest: one of the war brides who traveled to America on the Queen Mary! After our meal and exclusive conversation with Susan and the woman who helped shape her knowledge of the brides of WWII, we will hop on our private bus and return to San Diego.
About the Speaker: Susan Meissner is a multi-published author, speaker and writing workshop leader with a background in community journalism. Her novels include A Fall of Marigolds, named to Booklist’s Top Ten Women’s Fiction titles for 2014, and The Shape of Mercy, named by Publishers Weekly as one of the 100 Best Novels of 2008.
